Haitham Hassan set to join Celtic after completing medical

Egypt winger Haitham Hassan is expected to complete his move to Celtic on Wednesday after successfully passing his medical examination in London.

The 24-year-old Real Oviedo player is now understood to be one step away from officially becoming a Celtic player, with only the final contract documents left to be signed before the transfer can be announced.

According to a report published by the Scottish network “celtsarehere”, Hassan is expected to arrive at Celtic today, Wednesday, once the remaining paperwork has been completed. The announcement of the transfer is expected to follow shortly afterwards.

Celtic have agreed a deal worth about £6m for the winger, with a further £3m available through add-ons and incentives.

Hassan is also set to sign a four-year contract with the Scottish club, bringing an end to his time at Real Oviedo if the final formalities are completed as expected.

The move follows several days of negotiations between Celtic and Oviedo as the clubs worked towards an agreement for the Egypt international.

Talks eventually resulted in a final agreement, leaving Hassan free to complete the remaining stages of his transfer to Scotland.

Celtic’s decision to recruit Hassan forms part of their plans to increase their attacking options on the wings ahead of the new campaign.

The Scottish club are preparing for Champions League qualifying, where they are due to face Austrian side LASK Linz.

Adding Hassan to the squad is therefore intended to give Celtic another option in the wide attacking positions as they prepare for a season that will include the demands of European competition.

Hassan’s performances at the 2026 World Cup helped increase his profile and attracted interest from clubs across Europe.

His involvement with the Egyptian national team during the tournament brought him to the attention of a number of European sides before Celtic moved closer to securing his signature.

The proposed transfer would represent another important step in the winger’s career, taking him from Spanish football to one of Scotland’s leading clubs.

For Celtic, the signing would be their third addition of the summer once the necessary contracts have been completed.

The club have been working to strengthen their squad before the new season, and Hassan’s arrival would add further depth to their attacking options.

His ability to operate on the wing is expected to complement Celtic’s existing attacking resources, particularly as the club prepares for its Champions League qualifying campaign.

The financial structure of the deal means Celtic could ultimately pay as much as £9m if the additional £3m in bonuses and incentives are triggered.

However, the initial agreement is understood to be worth approximately £6m, with Hassan committing to four seasons at the Scottish club.

The completion of the medical in London represents a major step towards the transfer becoming official.

With the medical successfully completed, the remaining task is for the relevant documents to be signed before Celtic can confirm the move.

The timing of Hassan’s expected arrival is also significant as Celtic continue preparations for their European fixtures and the start of the new domestic campaign.

The club will be hoping to complete the formalities quickly so that their new winger can begin working with his new team-mates.

For Hassan, the move provides an opportunity to continue his development at a club competing for domestic honours while also pursuing European ambitions.

His performances for Egypt at the World Cup have helped create the conditions for the move, with his emergence on the international stage attracting attention from several clubs.

The transfer will become official once the final signatures have been completed.

Until then, Hassan remains a Real Oviedo player, but the successful medical means the deal is now close to completion.

If the final paperwork is signed as expected, Hassan will become Celtic’s third summer signing and begin a new chapter of his career in Scottish football.

Celtic’s immediate focus will then turn towards integrating the Egypt international into their squad as they prepare for their Champions League qualifying tie against LASK Linz and the wider challenges of the new season.
