Glody Lilepo has confirmed his departure from Kaizer Chiefs after an 18-month spell that ended with the club lifting the Nedbank Cup and securing qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup in consecutive seasons.
The Democratic Republic of Congo international announced his exit in an emotional message to Amakhosi supporters on social media, bringing his time at Naturena to a close.
Lilepo joined Kaizer Chiefs from French club Valenciennes FC in January 2025 after being identified by then-head coach Nasreddine Nabi. The South African club reportedly paid about R9.6 million for the winger, who quickly established himself as one of Amakhosi’s most influential attacking players.
In his farewell message, Lilepo thanked Dr Kaizer Motaung, Kaizer Motaung Jr., Bobby Motaung, the coaching staff and all Kaizer Chiefs employees.
“Khosi Nation, it is with emotion that my journey with you comes to an end. I would like to express my deepest gratitude to everyone at Kaizer Chiefs.”
The winger also reflected on the progress made during his time with the club, including ending a decade-long wait for major silverware.
“Together, we were able to bring a trophy back to this great club after ten years and secure qualification for the CAF Confederation in two consecutive seasons. I will always cherish the memories we created together. I know this club deserves more, and I have no doubt that greater days lie ahead.”
Lilepo reserved particular praise for the Kaizer Chiefs fanbase, whose support he said had remained important during both successful and difficult periods.
“To the supporters, THANK YOU for your passion, support, positivity and kindness. Your love for this club is truly special. I hope I was able to bring you some moments of joy, even though we also experienced some difficult times together.”
Key role in trophy success
Lilepo made an immediate impression after arriving midway through the 2024/25 season. Despite making only 15 league appearances, he finished as Kaizer Chiefs’ leading scorer in the Betway Premiership, scoring six goals and providing one assist.
He also found the net in notable matches against Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC.
His contribution helped Kaizer Chiefs win the Nedbank Cup, with the triumph ending the club’s 10-year wait for a major trophy. Lilepo continued to make an impact during the 2025/26 campaign, adding nine goals and four assists in all competitions.
Across his Kaizer Chiefs career, the winger scored 15 goals and supplied five assists. His performances helped restore confidence around the club, and he leaves having been one of Amakhosi’s most influential signings in recent years.
Lilepo’s farewell comes after a period in which Kaizer Chiefs returned to continental competition, qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup in back-to-back seasons.
