Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango is set to complete a move to Stellenbosch FC, with the experienced centre-back travelling to the Western Cape on Tuesday to finalise the transfer.
The 28-year-old has agreed to join Stellenbosch as part of a deal that will see highly rated winger Langelihle Phili move in the opposite direction to Naturena.
According to SABC Sport’s Mazola Molefe, Msimango is on the verge of leaving Amakhosi after reaching an agreement with Stellenbosch. The proposed exchange is one of the most closely watched deals of the current transfer window ahead of the Betway Premiership season.
Msimango joined Kaizer Chiefs from TS Galaxy in 2023, signing a four-year contract after establishing himself as one of the league’s most consistent defenders.
The Brakpan-born player made an immediate impression during his first season at the club. His composed displays quickly earned him a regular place in the starting line-up, while his leadership and defensive reliability made him an important part of the Amakhosi backline.
His development was subsequently interrupted by a long-term injury. After returning, increased competition for places restricted his opportunities, but Msimango fought his way back into the team and started nine of Kaizer Chiefs’ final 10 matches last season.
Despite ending the campaign strongly, the central defender is now expected to be included in the agreement that will take Phili from Stellenbosch to Kaizer Chiefs.
Msimango has made 161 top-flight appearances during his career, including 53 for Kaizer Chiefs. His experience is expected to strengthen Stellenbosch’s defence as the club prepares for the new Betway Premiership campaign.
For Kaizer Chiefs, the deal would bring one of the country’s most promising young attacking players into Fernando da Cruz’s squad. Phili’s move to Soweto represents the next stage of his career, while Msimango is set to begin a new chapter in the Western Cape.
The arrangement is expected to benefit both clubs, with Stellenbosch gaining an established Betway Premiership defender and Kaizer Chiefs adding a highly rated winger to their attack.
The remaining formalities are expected to be completed this week. If finalised, Msimango will become the latest player to leave Kaizer Chiefs for Stellenbosch FC, while Phili will switch the Western Cape for Soweto.
