Ghana-born midfielder Samuel Wiafe has taken another significant step in his promising career after completing a move to Serie A side Genoa on a long-term contract running until June 2030.
The 18-year-old joins the Italian top-flight club from Modena after an impressive campaign that saw him progress from youth football into the senior game, underlining the growing impact of African-born talent in European football.
The club paid approximately €2.5 million to secure the midfielder’s services, with Wiafe expected to link up with his new teammates after completing his international commitments with Italy at the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
The transfer marks an important milestone for the Ghana-born youngster, who has risen rapidly through Italy’s football system after developing at Vis Youth before joining Modena.
His performances during the 2025-26 season attracted attention after he excelled with Modena’s Primavera side, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 21 appearances.
Those displays earned him an opportunity with the club’s senior team, where he made his Serie B debut and went on to feature nine times while registering one assist.
That rapid progression has now been rewarded with a move to one of Italy’s established Serie A clubs, offering the midfielder the chance to continue his development at a higher level.
Genoa confirmed the signing in an official announcement, revealing that Wiafe has agreed terms on a contract that will keep him at the club until 2030.
Although still only 18, the midfielder has already established himself as one of the emerging young prospects in Italian football.
Born in Ghana, Wiafe currently represents Italy at youth international level.
He has featured for Italy’s Under-17 side and scored his first international goal in November 2024 during a 7-0 victory over Norway in the UEFA European Under-17 qualification campaign.
His current participation in the UEFA European Under-19 Championship means he will complete international duty before reporting to Genoa ahead of the new Serie A season.
Speaking about the transfer, Wiafe described the move as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

The midfielder added that he is determined to continue improving as he prepares for the biggest challenge of his career so far.
