Gael Kakudji, the DR Congo and Belgium centre-back, has joined Olympic Charleroi on a free transfer from Schaerbeek. The 27-year-old has signed a contract running until 30 June 2027, returning to the club where he previously spent time on loan.
Kakudji completed the move on 2 September 2026, with Olympic Charleroi competing in Belgium’s 1ste Nationale FFA. He arrives after a season with Schaerbeek in the 2de Nationale FFA and becomes part of Olympic Charleroi’s defensive options in the campaign ahead.
The 1.92m defender primarily operates at centre-back and is right-footed. Born in Liege, Kakudji holds DR Congo and Belgian nationality, adding experience of Belgian football across several levels to Olympic Charleroi’s squad.
His previous spell with the club came during the 2021-22 season, when he joined Olympic Charleroi on loan from RFC Seraing U21. He returned to Seraing at the end of that campaign before moving permanently to Eendracht Aalst on a free transfer in July 2022.
Kakudji subsequently spent two seasons with RAEC Mons, joining the club from Eendracht Aalst in July 2023. He moved to Schaerbeek in July 2025, also on a free transfer, before making his latest switch back to Olympic Charleroi.
Earlier in his career, Kakudji came through KAA Gent’s under-19 side before joining Antwerp U21 in 2018. He then moved to RFC Seraing in 2020 and had loan spells with RFC Liege and Olympic Charleroi during the following two seasons.
The defender’s return gives Olympic Charleroi a player familiar with the club and its surroundings, while his new agreement keeps him at the side through the end of June 2027. Kakudji has now completed his free transfer from Schaerbeek to Olympic Charleroi.
