Spanish actress Ester Exposito says she is prepared to take legal action over what she describes as “false and defamatory” rumours about her private life and her reported relationship with Real Madrid and France forward Kylian Mbappe.
The 24-year-old, best known for her role in the series Elite, released a written statement on her social media accounts, in which she condemned recent speculation about her personal relationships without specifying individual reports or outlets.
Spanish newspaper Sport reported that Exposito’s message was widely interpreted as a response to a wave of stories in recent months suggesting tension or a cooling-off in her unconfirmed relationship with Mbappe.
“Over the past few months, and especially in recent days, false and defamatory headlines and information have spread on social media about me and my personal life, which have nothing to do with the truth or with who I am,” Exposito wrote.
She continued: “These are absurd rumours that have been invented with the aim of distorting a story between two people and damaging my dignity. Not everything is allowed, and this time I find myself obliged to put a stop to this and take legal action against those responsible.”
Legal warning over social media content
Exposito believes that the persistent gossip surrounding her private life in recent weeks has harmed her public image and infringed on her dignity, according to Sport’s account of the statement.
She urged followers not to accept everything they see online as fact, highlighting in particular the volume of unverified claims circulating on the platform X.
For that reason, she announced that she is ready to pursue legal measures against anyone who publishes defamatory content or helps to spread rumours intended to damage her reputation.
Exposito did not mention Mbappe by name in the statement, nor did she explicitly confirm the nature of their relationship. However, reports in Spain and elsewhere have repeatedly linked the pair, even though neither has publicly confirmed they are together and both have consistently kept any potential relationship away from the spotlight.
World Cup speculation and deleted photo
Despite that privacy, speculation over a supposed crisis between Exposito and Mbappe intensified after the World Cup, with various outlets suggesting the tournament marked a turning point in their alleged relationship.
Mbappe had previously shared a photograph of himself alongside Exposito, in which the actress was wearing a France national team shirt. The image was later deleted, a move that fuelled further conjecture about the status of their relationship and the accuracy of the rumours surrounding them.
According to the magazine Hola, Exposito’s statement may also be connected to Mexican actor Alejandro Speitzer, whose name has likewise been linked in recent months to several public figures. Hola suggested that the actress could be responding more broadly to speculation involving multiple people in her private life rather than a single individual.
No comment from Mbappe
In recent weeks, the volume of reports about a potential rift between Exposito and Mbappe has increased, especially after Mbappe’s participation in the World Cup and their absence together from several public events.
However, neither Exposito nor Mbappe has issued any direct comment to confirm or deny the various claims about their relationship or any supposed problems between them.
In the closing lines of her message, Exposito underlined that her priority is to defend her image and reputation, stressing that freedom of expression cannot be used as a justification for publishing accusations or information that are not supported by any evidence.
