Ghanaian-Serbian right winger Douglas Owusu has joined Hapoel Tel Aviv from Red Star Belgrade for €2.2m, completing a move from Serbia’s top flight to Israel’s Ligat ha’Al.
The 20-year-old has moved after a season in which he helped Red Star win the Serbian SuperLiga title and the Serbian Cup. Owusu joined the Belgrade club’s senior set-up having already claimed silverware in Serbia, and now begins the next stage of his career with Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Owusu was born in Cape Coast and holds Ghanaian and Serbian nationality. He plays on the right side of attack and is left-footed, giving him a role suited to cutting in from the flank. Standing at 1.65m, he arrives at his new club as a young attacking player with experience of domestic competition in Serbia.
His honours with Red Star came in the 2025-26 campaign, when the club secured both of Serbia’s major domestic trophies. The league and cup successes were the first senior titles of his time with Red Star, marking a significant season before his move abroad.
Owusu had previously played for FK Radnik Surdulica, where he was part of the team that won the Serbian Second League title in the 2024-25 season. That success preceded his move to Red Star and provided the foundation for his arrival at one of Serbia’s leading clubs.
The transfer fee of €2.2m takes Owusu to Hapoel Tel Aviv at a point when he is still eligible to develop as a young first-team player. His move also represents a change of league and country, with the winger leaving Serbian football for the Israeli top division.
Hapoel Tel Aviv have secured Owusu’s services on a contract running until 30 June 2030.
