Crystal Palace are preparing an official approach for Chelsea defender Axel Disasi as the Premier League club looks to strengthen its defence during the summer transfer window, according to reports.
The London side have reportedly identified the French international of Congolese descent as their preferred candidate to reinforce the backline, with discussions already underway between Palace and Chelsea over the framework of a possible transfer.
Disasi has emerged as Palace’s leading defensive target after the club began planning for life without Maxence Lacroix, whose future appears set to lie away from Selhurst Park.
The Eagles are keen to move quickly to secure a replacement and believe the 28-year-old possesses the experience required to strengthen their squad.
However, Crystal Palace are not alone in their pursuit.
Several Serie A clubs are also monitoring Disasi’s situation and could enter negotiations should talks between the two Premier League clubs fail to produce an agreement.
Their interest means Palace may face competition for the defender’s signature before the transfer window closes.
The former AS Monaco centre-back remains under contract with Chelsea until June 2029, giving the west London club a strong negotiating position.
Disasi joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023 after completing a €45 million move from Monaco, signing a long-term contract that runs until 2029.
Although his spell at Stamford Bridge has produced mixed fortunes, he remains an experienced defender with Premier League pedigree and international experience.
During the second half of the 2025-26 campaign, Disasi spent time on loan at West Ham United, where he successfully rebuilt his standing after struggling for regular opportunities earlier in the season.
The defender quickly established himself as a key figure in West Ham’s defence, starting 16 of his 17 appearances during the loan spell and contributing one goal. Despite his consistent performances, he was unable to prevent the Hammers from suffering relegation to the Championship.
His improved displays have nevertheless renewed interest in his services, with Crystal Palace now moving to make him a central part of their defensive plans.
According to reports, Palace have already begun talks with Chelsea and are expected to submit a formal offer as negotiations progress.
While the Premier League club appear to be leading the race, the transfer remains far from complete. Italian clubs are continuing to monitor developments and could become serious contenders if discussions in England slow down.
Disasi’s profile makes him an attractive option for clubs seeking an experienced central defender. Besides his club career, he has represented France at senior international level, earning five caps.
Although born in France, the defender has strong African roots through his Congolese and Angolan heritage. Earlier in his career, he was called up by the DR Congo Under-20 side for the 2017 Jeux de la Francophonie before eventually representing France at senior level.
