Marvin Senaya has been called up by two national teams, leaving the Auxerre right-back with a decision about his international future.
The 25-year-old defender now faces a choice between representing Ghana or Togo at senior level.
Senaya has enjoyed a strong season as a regular starter for AJ Auxerre, having previously played for Strasbourg, Sochaux, and Lausanne.
His performances have drawn attention on both sides of the border.
For Ghana, head coach Otto Addo included Senaya in a 26-man squad announced on Monday for friendly matches against Austria and Germany.
The call-up highlights the Black Stars’ clear interest in securing the player’s services.
At the same time, Togo has also called up Senaya to its preliminary squad for the first training camp under coach Patrice Neveu, signalling their desire to integrate the defender into the Hawks’ plans.
He is the son of former Togolese international Yao Mawuko Senaya and also has Ghanaian roots.
The close cultural and historical ties between the two neighbouring countries mean that dual-nationality players like him often face tough decisions.
Ghana FA Communications Director Asante Twum has indicated Ghana is confident in its position. “It would be unprofessional to publish a list without the player’s agreement. […] The federation has spoken with him several times, and he has agreed to play for us,” he told 3Sports.
The Black Stars will play at the FIFA World Cup 2026 in four months, providing exposure on football’s biggest stage.
Club teammates Elisha Owusu and Gideon Mensah could also influence his decision.
Togo, meanwhile, offers the chance to honour his father’s legacy and be part of a rebuilding project.
But in terms of immediate sporting prestige, the Black Stars appear to have the edge.
The international break will determine which path Senaya takes, as both Associations await arrival of the Auxerre defender.
