Concern for Burkina Faso as Hervé Koffi limps off in Ligue 1 finale

Burkina Faso international Hervé Koffi suffered an injury during Angers SCO’s final Ligue 1 match of the season against Brest, casting uncertainty over the goalkeeper’s immediate future after an impressive campaign in France.

Koffi was forced off early in the second half of Angers’ 1-1 draw with Stade Brestois 29 at the Stade Francis-Le Blé after appearing to suffer muscle pain in his leg.

The 29-year-old, who started in goal for Angers on the final day of the Ligue 1 season, was replaced in the 49th minute by Melvin Zinga as medical staff quickly attended to the Burkinabé goalkeeper.

Although the full extent of the injury has not yet been confirmed, the incident immediately raised concern for both club and country given Koffi’s importance throughout the campaign.

Angers are expected to conduct further medical examinations to determine the precise nature of the problem and assess how long the goalkeeper could be sidelined.

The injury comes at a difficult time for the French club, whose squad has already been affected by several fitness problems during the closing stages of the 2025-26 season.

For Koffi personally, the setback interrupts what has widely been viewed as one of the strongest seasons of his professional career.

The Burkina Faso international established himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in Ligue 1 this season, recording 10 clean sheets and playing a key role for Angers during his loan spell from RC Lens.

His performances were significant enough to earn him a place in L’Équipe’s Team of the Season, recognition that underlined his growing reputation in French football.

Koffi’s consistency between the posts has also been closely followed in Burkina Faso, where he remains one of the national team’s most experienced and dependable players.

For supporters of the Stallions, news of the injury will inevitably create anxiety, particularly with international football commitments approaching and uncertainty still surrounding the goalkeeper’s recovery timeline.

The Burkinabé shot-stopper remains under contract until June 2028, though he is expected to return to RC Lens following the completion of his loan spell at Angers.

His future at Lens could now become another important storyline of the summer, especially after a campaign that significantly boosted his standing within Ligue 1.

Valued at around €5m, Koffi has steadily developed into one of Burkina Faso’s most successful football exports in Europe.

His performances this season highlighted not only his shot-stopping ability but also his leadership and composure under pressure.

The draw against Brest ultimately concluded Angers’ domestic campaign, but the focus after the final whistle quickly shifted toward concern over the goalkeeper’s condition.

In African football circles, Koffi’s rise has also reflected the growing influence of Burkinabé players in European leagues.

His recognition among the league’s top performers this season marked another important achievement for football in Burkina Faso.

Now, attention turns to the club’s medical assessment and whether the injury will affect the next phase of his career.
