Liverpool could face another major change to their attack this summer, with Tottenham planning to step up their interest in Netherlands winger Cody Gakpo.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are preparing to intensify their efforts to sign Gakpo, with talks expected to reach an important stage in the coming period.
The winger has emerged as one of the attacking options being considered by the London club, alongside Brazil forward Savinho, who remains a key target for Tottenham. However, any move for Gakpo is likely to depend heavily on Liverpool’s position and the valuation the club places on the player.
Gakpo is not currently among the players Liverpool have made available for transfer. That could make a departure difficult, particularly because he was an important part of the team last season and regularly operated on the left wing.
The latest reports come as Liverpool face the possibility of further changes across their wide attacking positions. Mohamed Salah, the club’s first-choice right winger and one of their most prominent players in recent years, has already left.
If Gakpo were also to depart, Liverpool would lose both of their established wingers in the space of one season. That would present the club with a significant rebuilding task as they seek to replace Salah and maintain the attacking strength needed to compete for domestic and European honours.
Tottenham’s interest therefore gives Gakpo’s future increased significance in the days ahead, although Liverpool’s current stance suggests there is no clear intention to sell him.
Gakpo joined Liverpool’s attacking setup as a versatile forward and his regular role on the left made him an important part of the side during the previous campaign. His potential exit would consequently create another gap for the club to address, rather than simply represent the loss of a squad player.
For Tottenham, the Dutchman is being considered as part of a wider search for attacking reinforcements. Savinho remains a principal objective, but Gakpo’s availability, alongside Liverpool’s valuation and willingness to negotiate, will determine whether the London club can make meaningful progress.
At present, there is no indication that Liverpool have decided to part with the winger. The club’s position could still be tested if Tottenham follow through on plans to increase their activity and formal discussions become more advanced.
The situation leaves Liverpool facing an uncertain period in attack. Following Salah’s departure, retaining Gakpo would preserve some continuity on the wings, while losing him as well would force the club to reshape a significant part of its forward line before the new season.
