Stade Brestois are considering a move for Mali international Moussa Diarra as they assess options to reinforce their defence, with the 25-year-old potentially set for a return to Ligue 1.
Diarra has emerged as a name on Brest’s recruitment list after an earlier move involving Le Havre AC failed to materialise. Le Havre were the first club to show an interest in the defender, but no transfer was completed.
That setback has not ended Diarra’s prospects of returning to France’s top flight. According to Foot Mercato, Brest have included the former Toulouse player on a shortlist of potential defensive recruits.
The defender is currently under contract with Deportivo Alaves. He has recently completed a loan spell with Anderlecht and is now the subject of interest from Brest as the club studies ways to strengthen its defensive options.
Diarra’s situation therefore remains open, with Brest assessing whether he could become a target in the transfer market. The club’s interest is at the stage of consideration, with the player listed among a number of possible recruits rather than having a completed move in place.
For Diarra, the attention from Brest offers another possible route back to Ligue 1 after the proposed move to Le Havre AC did not go through. His previous experience with Toulouse means he is already familiar with French football, while his current contract remains with Deportivo Alaves following his loan at Anderlecht.
No agreement has been reached between Brest and Diarra at this stage. The French club are continuing to examine their options, while the Mali international’s future remains linked to the decisions made by Deportivo Alaves and any further interest from Ligue 1.
Brest’s consideration of Diarra places him among the players being monitored as they look to improve their defensive department. The defender’s name has also been connected with Le Havre AC, although that earlier interest did not result in a transfer.
With his Anderlecht loan now complete, Diarra returns to the centre of attention as clubs assess his next move. For now, he remains a Deportivo Alaves player, while Brest’s interest could give him another opportunity to return to Ligue 1.
