Sofiane Boufal has officially confirmed his departure from Le Havre AC after helping the club secure survival in Ligue 1.
The Moroccan international announced the news on Instagram on Wednesday, bringing an end to a short but influential spell in Normandy following his arrival during the winter transfer window.
Boufal joined Le Havre on a free transfer after leaving Union Saint-Gilloise, with the move offering the experienced winger an opportunity to rebuild momentum and regain regular playing time at the highest level.
The 32-year-old quickly established himself as an important player under head coach Didier Digard during the second half of the season.
Despite arriving midway through the campaign, Boufal featured in all 17 Ligue 1 matches after the winter break and started 13 of those games as Le Havre fought to preserve their top-flight status.
His contribution of one goal and four assists proved valuable during the club’s survival battle, while his creativity, experience and composure added balance to the team during a difficult period.
Boufal’s strong performances also marked an important personal comeback after a challenging spell in recent years that had seen his role diminish at club and international level.
The former Lille OSC and Angers SCO attacker has now revived hopes of returning to the Morocco national team setup ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His recent form reportedly earned him inclusion in coach Mohamed Ouahbi’s preliminary Morocco squad, nearly two and a half years after his last appearance for the Atlas Lions.
The possible return would represent a major boost for Boufal, who played a significant role in Morocco’s memorable run to the semi-finals at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Although his stay at Le Havre lasted only a few months, the spell is widely being viewed as a successful one for both player and club, with Boufal helping deliver the team’s primary objective of Ligue 1 survival.
Attention will now shift to the next stage of his career as the Moroccan winger weighs his future while also attempting to secure a place in Morocco’s final World Cup squad
