Burkina Faso winger Axel Taonsa could be included in the national team for the first time when coach Amir Abdou names his squad for the upcoming international break.
The 22-year-old has attracted attention with his performances for Swedish club Västerås SK this season, with Swedish media reporting that he is among the players being considered by Abdou.
Taonsa could therefore become one of the new faces in the Burkina Faso squad when it is announced on 17 September.
Abdou is scheduled to reveal his selection during a press conference on that date, meaning there has been no official confirmation yet that Taonsa will receive his first senior call-up.
The forward has, however, impressed in Sweden and his performances have put him in contention for a place in the national team.
One of his notable displays this season came against Örgryte, when he scored twice for Västerås SK.
Taonsa plays primarily as a left winger and is right-footed. He was born on 6 February 2004 and has established himself at Västerås SK at the age of 22.
A first senior appearance for Burkina Faso would represent a new stage in the young attacker’s career and would give Abdou another option in the national team’s attacking department.
The potential inclusion comes as the Burkina Faso coach prepares his squad for the next international window.
, Taonsa is being considered as part of Abdou’s plans, although his selection remains subject to the official squad announcement.
For now, the Västerås SK winger must wait until 17 September to find out whether he has made the final list.
If selected, Taonsa would experience Burkina Faso’s senior national team environment for the first time.
His performances for Västerås SK have provided the basis for the reported interest, with his brace against Örgryte among the displays that have helped bring him into consideration.
At 22, the winger represents one of the potential new additions to Abdou’s squad as the coach continues to assess his options.
The Burkina Faso national team could consequently have a new attacking option if Taonsa receives the call.
The young forward’s position as a left winger and his ability to contribute goals have made him a player to watch ahead of the squad announcement.
However, despite reports linking him with the national team, nothing has been made official.
Abdou’s press conference on 17 September will provide the definitive answer on whether Taonsa has been selected.
