Alvini insists Frosinone’s target remains survival despite strong start

Massimiliano Alvini has played down Frosinone’s impressive opening weeks, stressing that securing survival remains the club’s only objective this season.

The Frosinone coach was speaking at the Festival dello Sport in Trento after being asked whether his team’s early form had surprised people and allowed them to move ahead of expectations.

“We have a single objective, as the president said today, and it’s achieving safety. It’ll be difficult, it’ll be a very long journey,” Alvini said, in comments reported by TuttoMercatoWeb.

Frosinone will return to action on Saturday, but Alvini said the team would not allow its promising start to alter its focus.

“At this moment we’ve been on an important journey but we’re aware of what awaits us. We’re not looking now at whether we’ve done well,” he added.

For Alvini, the campaign will only be judged a success if Frosinone remain in the division at the end of it.

“The nicest result is if you then achieve survival at the end of the journey. You have to enjoy that,” he said.

The coach also provided an update on Antonio Raimondo, whose involvement in Frosinone’s trip to Napoli is uncertain after the forward was released from the Italy Under-21 camp.

“I don’t know. We’ll see, he’s having treatment. We’ll see mid-week,” said Alvini.

Raimondo has scored four goals so far, a tally surpassed only by Donyell Malen. Juventus are reportedly monitoring the forward as part of a revamped scouting approach.

Frosinone have also benefited from the form of Giorgi Kvernadze, who has been productive on the opposite flank. Roma are tracking the player and he has been valued at €25m.

Slovakian forward Bobcek could potentially partner Raimondo in attack. He joined Frosinone in the final days of the transfer window and has since worked to reach full condition.

“Yes. Bobcek arrived in the last days of the window and needed to get himself into condition a bit. He’s ready. We’re very happy with him and with the signing. He’ll give us a hand,” Alvini said.

The coach was also asked whether his players could have ambitions of appearing at Euro 2028, but refused to be drawn into discussing longer-term international prospects.

“You see those things. I have to think about coaching them and improving them,” he replied.
