Al-Merreikh Port Said have submitted an official complaint to the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) against Pyramids FC, claiming the club has failed to pay outstanding financial dues related to the transfer of Egypt international Ibrahim Adel.
A source close to Al-Merreikh told Kora Plus that the club is demanding payment of its agreed share from Adel’s future transfers, based on a clause included in the original agreement between the two clubs.
According to the source, Al-Merreikh are entitled to receive 20% of the value of any transfer involving Ibrahim Adel, including his moves to UAE side Al Jazira and Danish club Nordsjælland.
The club says the payments were agreed to be made in three instalments spread over a period of three years. However, Al-Merreikh claim that the deadlines for the first two payments have passed without receiving the money owed to them.
The source explained that the first instalment had already reached its payment deadline, while the second instalment was due on 1 August, but no funds had been received by the Port Said club.
Al-Merreikh decided to take the matter to the Egyptian Football Association after what it described as a lack of response from Pyramids FC regarding repeated attempts to resolve the issue.
The club believes the complaint is necessary to protect its contractual rights and secure the money it says it is owed.
The source added that FIFA had previously recognised Al-Merreikh’s entitlement to receive $80,000, representing the club’s agreed percentage from Ibrahim Adel’s transfer value.
The dispute centres on a sell-on clause connected to Adel’s move from Al-Merreikh Port Said to Pyramids FC during the 2017-18 season.
Adel joined Pyramids after emerging as one of the promising young talents at Al-Merreikh, where his performances attracted attention and eventually led to his transfer to the Cairo-based club.
Since moving to Pyramids, the winger has developed into one of Egyptian football’s notable players and has attracted interest from clubs outside the country.
His performances have resulted in further transfer activity, including reported moves involving Al Jazira in the United Arab Emirates and Nordsjælland in Denmark, triggering the resale percentage included in the original agreement between Al-Merreikh and Pyramids.
Al-Merreikh are now seeking enforcement of that agreement through the country’s football authorities after claiming that the payments have not been completed.
The complaint adds another financial dispute to the Egyptian football landscape, with clubs increasingly relying on contractual clauses such as resale percentages to secure future income from player development.
For Al-Merreikh, receiving the outstanding funds would represent a significant financial boost, while Pyramids FC will now be required to respond to the claims raised before the Egyptian Football Association.
The case is expected to be reviewed by the relevant football authorities as both sides seek a resolution over the unpaid transfer-related payments.
