Former Egypt international Ahmed Fathi believes Morocco have what it takes to reach the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, praising the Atlas Lions for their performances as they continue another impressive run in the tournament.
Morocco have once again established themselves among Africa’s strongest teams after building on the success of the 2022 World Cup, where they became the first African and Arab nation to finish fourth.
The Atlas Lions have enjoyed another impressive campaign in North America, finishing second in Group C with seven points after drawing with Brazil and recording victories over Scotland and Haiti.
Their progress continued in the Round of 32, where they defeated the Netherlands 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after regular and extra time to secure a place in the last 16.
Speaking on the Pharaohs of Football programme on ON Sport, Fathi said he expects Morocco to continue their journey all the way to the tournament’s showpiece match.

“I expect Morocco to reach the World Cup final.”
The former Egypt defender also praised the team’s organisation and mentality, saying their performances have made them one of the standout sides at the competition.
“The Moroccan team is very strong, and has imposed its rhythm significantly during the matches it has played so far in the tournament.”
During the programme, presenter Ahmed Khairy pointed out that France could await Morocco later in the knockout rounds should both teams continue to progress.
However, Fathi remained convinced that the Atlas Lions have the quality to overcome any challenge and reach the final.
Morocco’s immediate focus is on their Round of 16 encounter against Canada, while France are due to face Paraguay in another knockout fixture.
Should Morocco defeat Canada and France overcome Paraguay, the two sides would meet in a quarter-final that could prove to be one of the headline fixtures of the tournament.
Morocco are aiming to extend what has already been another memorable World Cup campaign as they continue their pursuit of more history for African football.
With confidence growing after their victory over the Netherlands and backing from one of Egypt’s most decorated former internationals, the Atlas Lions will head into the Canada clash believing they can continue their remarkable run.
