Abha have signed former France international Nabil Fekir on a free transfer, adding the 2018 World Cup winner to their squad for the new Saudi Pro League season.
The Saudi club, who have only recently been promoted to the Saudi Pro League, announced the arrival of the 33-year-old midfielder in a video published on their official channels.
Fekir joins Abha after his contract with United Arab Emirates club Al Jazira expired at the end of last season. The Saudi side did not disclose the length or financial details of the agreement, but previous reports said he would sign a one-year contract with an option to extend it for a further season.
His arrival represents a significant addition for Abha, given Fekir’s international and club pedigree. He was part of the France squad that won the 2018 World Cup in Russia, appearing in every match as a substitute. He did not score or provide an assist during the tournament.
Fekir developed his reputation during a six-year spell with Olympique Lyonnais between 2013 and 2019. He then moved to Spain, where he spent five successful years with Real Betis before joining Al Jazira in 2024.
The Frenchman made 25 appearances for Al Jazira last season, scoring 10 goals and creating four more. Those performances helped underline his continued attacking influence before his move to Saudi Arabia.
Fekir began his senior career with Olympique Lyonnais and became one of the most prominent attacking midfielders in French football during his time at the club. His form earned him recognition at international level and a place in France’s World Cup-winning squad in 2018.
Although he was used from the bench throughout that tournament, his inclusion reflected his status within the national team during one of the most successful periods in French football history.
Abha’s move for Fekir is another notable deal in the current summer transfer window, with the club securing an experienced player without paying a transfer fee. The midfielder’s record in the United Arab Emirates last season, combined with his previous success in Europe and his international honours, gives the newly promoted side an established attacking option.
The final terms of the agreement have not been officially announced by Abha. Reports indicate that the contract will initially run for one season, with the possibility of extending it by another year.
